Monster Cupcake Tutorial

Melissa Bastow

monster cupcakes for halloween

These monster cupcakes are awesome.  AWESOME.  They are perfect for class parties, birthday parties, family parties, Halloween parties, the kind of party where you just want to eat a cupcake for no reason (that totally counts as a party).  They're not too hard to put together and they'll impress anyone who sees them - because they're awesome (did I mention that before?)

This is what you'll need:

  • Prepared Chocolate Cupcakes, unfrosted
  • 1 Can Vanilla Frosting
  • Food Coloring—orange, purple, green
  • Toothpicks
  • Tacky Glue
  • Googly Eyes, multi-colored
  • Plastic Vampire Teeth

Make some cupcakes (using a cake mix is easiest) and let them cool.  Take 12 toothpicks and glue a googly eye to each one, making sure to glue it on the non-pointy end at the top.  Make sure the glue is all the way dry and hard before you use the eyeball sticks on food.

Divide the frosting into 3 bowls in equal amounts and color each one a different color.  For Halloween I suggest orange, green, purple, or black.  But for birthdays you could use whatever colors go along with your theme!

Frost a couple cupcakes in each color. You can just spread this on or use a plastic bag and a frosting tip and pipe it on.

Stick two or three of the stick eyes into each cupcake (or lots of eyes, if that's the kind of monster you're going for).  Cut the vampire teeth in half, and lay one each on the top front of the cupcakes to look like monster teeth.  You can use a little bit of red food gel to give the teeth some blood, if you want.

Present your monster cupcakes with double cupcake liners, or you can use some fun cupcake printables to give your event an even cooler vibe.  Everyone at your party will love these cupcakes (even if it's just you)!
